Lucky Sevens: No. 7 Wrestling Wins Seventh of Last 10 at No. 18 West Liberty State

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. - The No. 7-ranked Shippensburg University wrestling team won its seventh match out of the last 10 by winning seven out of 10 matches on Sunday afternoon in a 27-11 victory at 18th-ranked West Liberty State College. Red-shirt senior Jake Lininger (Camp Hill, Pa./Lower Dauphin) remained perfect in dual match competition this season, running his record to 16-0 with a fall at heavyweight.

For the second-ranked Lininger, it was his 25th victory and12th fall this year, both team highs, as he has now won 16 out of his last 17 matches.

No. 3-ranked junior Mark Murphy (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) posted his 14th victory in his last 16 matches with a fall at 184 pounds over Chris Gibbs. The victory was also his 10th by fall this season and his eighth by fall in the last 14 matches.

At 197 pounds, senior Corey Jacoby (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), ranked fourth, won his fourth-straight match with a 6-2 decision over Chris Taylor. He is now 14-5 this season, including 13-2 in dual matches. For his career, Jacoby has won 109 matches.

Fifth-ranked red-shirt junior Jamie Thomas (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) posted his 22nd victory of the season with a 7-4 decision over Lucas Huffman. Along with Lininger, Thomas has a team-high 16 dual match victories as he is 16-2.

Lininger, Murphy, Jacoby and Thomas have combined for an overall record of 92-23 this year, including a mark of 58-5 in dual matches. All four are ranked in the top-5 in Division II and have totaled 31 of the team's 41 falls.

Red-shirt sophomore Dan Nauman (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) picked up his 17th win of the season at 149 pounds with a 12-10 decision over Joe Hagedorn while red-shirt freshman Chris Murray (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and sophomore Eric Kauffman (Etters, Pa./Red Land) also picked up victories.

Shippensburg (11-7) will travel to Kutztown University on Wednesday for its final regular-season match of the year before competing in the NCAA Division II East Region Championships February 24-25 also at Kutztown.
