Wrestling to Host 2006 East Coast Duals Friday and Saturday

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The seventh-ranked Shippensburg University wrestling team is set to host the 15-team East Coast Duals at Heiges Field House this weekend, January 20-21. Action gets underway beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m., and continuing through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Of the 15 teams in attendance, six are ranked in the NCAA Division II national rankings, including No. 2 Minnesota State, No. 3 Pittsburgh-Johnstown and No. 7 Shippensburg. Also competing is No. 14 Mercyhurst and No. 16 Gannon while Anderson (S.C.), North Carolina-Pembroke and West Liberty State are also receiving votes in the rankings.

Delaware Valley is currently ranked 28th in Division III.

Individually, six No.1-ranked wrestlers will be in action during the weekend. Shippensburg's Jamie Thomas at 125 pounds and Corey Jacoby at 197 are joined by Pittsburgh-Johnstown's Thad Benton (141) and Mike Coretti (184), Mercyhurst's Zach Shafer (165) and Travis Krinkle (174) of Minnesota State.

In all, 26 nationally ranked wrestlers will take to the Heiges Field House mats this weekend.

There will be simultaneous wrestling on up to six mats throughout the weekend. The event begins on Friday at 6:00 p.m., as Carson-Newman faces No. 14 Mercyhurst, No. 7 Shippensburg takes on Newberry, Limestone takes on Kutztown, No. 12 Wisconsin-Parkside squares off against North Carolina-Pembroke and Belmont Abbey faces West Liberty State.

Also, Shippensburg's Jacoby will be looking for his 100th career victory this weekend, as he currently has 99. His first match will be against Newberry at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jacboy is looking to become just the fifth wrestler in Shippensburg history to win 100 career matches.
