No. 7 Shippensburg Dismantles Royals on Senior Night

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Highlighted by four falls and one technical fall, the seventh-ranked Shippensburg University wrestling team rolled to a 38-6 victory over the University on Scranton on Senior Night at Heiges Field House. The Red Raiders won six of the eight contested matches and snapped a two-match losing streak.
All five of the seniors wrestling on Wednesday night picked up victories for Shippensburg (4-4), including three by fall and one by technical fall. The fifth wrestler, senior Ian Zearfaus (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) picked up a forfeit at 184 pounds.
Red-shirt senior Jake Lininger (Camp Hill, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored the highlight of the night as he picked up a fall over Dave Rohan in just 26 seconds, the fastest fall recorded on the team this season and the third fastest in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this year.
Lininger leads the team with 15 victories this season, including a perfect 8-0 in dual matches.
Also picking up falls for Shippensburg (4-4) on Wednesday were senior Alex Renn (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) at 141 pounds, sophomore Rick Mascino (Philadelphia, Pa./North Catholic) at 174 and senior Corey Jacoby (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) at 197.
For Mascino, it was the first fall of his career while Jacoby's victory was the 99th of his career, leaving him one short of becoming the fifth wrestler in school history to total 100.
Red-shirt junior Jamie Thomas (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), the No. 1-ranked wrestler in Division II, picked up his second technical fall of the season, but this time at 133 pounds after moving up a weight class to accomodate a no match at 125.
Shippensburg's sixth win of the night came from red-shirt freshman Chris Murray (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) who defeated Scranton's Tim Simansky, 9-3.
Scranton (0-4) picked up victories from Donnell Young at 149 pounds and Steve Tatum at 165 who edged out Red Raider sophomore Zach Kump (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) in sudden victory, 7-5.
Shippensburg returns to action on Friday and Saturday as the team hosts the 2006 East Coast Duals at Heiges Field House. Matches begin on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
