Mandy Taylor's Return Highlights Historic Regular-Season Finale

Nov. 3, 2007

Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – After tearing her ACL in the preseason, Shippensburg University women's volleyball senior Mandy Taylor (Hanover/South Western) made her first appearance of the season, totaling a match-high six service aces to headline a history-making 30-4, 30-7, 30-1 victory for the Lady Raiders over Cheyney Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House in the regular-season finale for both teams.

With the win, Shippensburg (30-10, 10-0 PSAC East) became the first team in program history to win 30 matches in a season while becoming just the second to finish its PSAC Eastern Division schedule undefeated. The only other team to go 10-0 in conference play was the 1990 Lady Raiders who finished second in the PSAC Volleyball Championship.

The victory also adds to the Lady Raiders' school record for wins in a season which they set back on October 13 with a 3-0 victory over Elizabeth City State, moving them past the 1991 and 2006 teams who had won 24.

After being cleared by her doctor and training staff to serve, Taylor, the team's lone senior, appeared in her first three games of the season. For her career, she has appeared in 71 matches and 197 games, totaling 275 kills, 262 digs and 59 service aces. Taylor has also been a part of the team for each of its two PSAC Eastern Division championships over the last four seasons.

Junior Karey Toms (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) led the way offensively, totaling a career and match-high 12 kills while adding three digs. Sophomore Renee Parseghian (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) had a match-high 12 digs which was one short of her career-high of 13 set in a 3-0 loss versus Westmont earlier this season on August 24.

The sophomore trio of Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg), Brittany Roche (Morrisville/Pennsbury) and Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) each totaled seven kills while sophomore Missy Ramp (York/Central York) had 20 assists.

With the regular season concluded, Shippensburg will focus its attention to hosting the 2007 PSAC Volleyball Championship next Friday and Saturday at Heiges Field House. The Lady Raiders will play at 7:30 p.m., on Friday against the winner of the West Chester-Clarion match which takes place at 12:30 p.m.

More information on the championship such as a schedule and pertinent tournament information will be available at raiders.ship.edu Monday afternoon.

Cheyney concludes its season at 0-17, 0-10 in the PSAC Eastern Division.
