WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Led by 16 kills and eight digs from red-shirt sophomore Brittany Roche (Morrisville/Pennsbury), the Shippensburg University volleyball team swept the season series with West Chester for the first time since 2000 following a 30-24, 30-23, 30-27 victory Tuesday night at Hollinger Field House.

The Lady Raiders (28-10, 8-0 PSAC East) remained unbeaten in conference play and moved one match closer to the 1990 team who went 10-0 in PSAC Eastern Division play.

Sophomore Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg) totaled her team-leading eighth double double of the season with 13 digs and 10 digs while sophomore Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) added 12 kills which were two short of her season-high and five off her career-high.

Junior Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) had six kills, seven digs and 46 assists. She now has 1,255 assists this season, just 15 short of her school record of 1,270 set during her freshman season in 2005.

DuVall has also totaled 3,119 assists in her career, just 110 short of Amber Schmerfeld's school record of 3,229 set from 2002-04. DuVall is also approaching the career service aces record as she is now in third place with 174, 35 behind Heather Heist (1988-91) and 78 shy of the school record of 252 held by Shelly Stallsmith (1981-84).

Defensively on Tuesday, junior Kelsi Hoffman (York/West York) totaled 18 digs and now has 448 this season, tied for eighth on the school's single-season list. For her career, she has totaled 1,557 digs which ranks third in school history.

Kristen Decker led the way for West Chester (24-9, 4-4 PSAC East) with 12 kills while Jacqueline Vivanco added 16 digs.

Shippensburg will now have a six-day layoff before returning to action next Tuesday, October 30 at Kutztown. The Lady Raiders currently lead the Golden Bears by one game in the conference standings and can clinch their second PSAC Eastern Division championship in the last four years with a win.

A win would also guarantee Shippensburg home-court advantage throughout the PSAC Volleyball Championship which will take place November 9-10.
