Lady Raider Volleyball Falls to California (Pa.) in Battle of PSAC Divisional Leaders

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team committed 20 hitting errors which led to a 30-26, 30-15, 30-17 loss at California (Pa.) Friday night at Hamer Hall in a match-up of the top two teams in the PSAC in crossover play. Both teams entered the match with perfect 7-0 records in divisional play.

Shippensburg (26-9), who leads the PSAC Eastern Division and is ranked fifth in the NCAA Atlantic Region, was led by 12 kills from red-shirt sophomore Brittany Roche (Morrisville/Pennsbury). The Lady Raiders are now 1-3 against the PSAC Western Division this season with a win over Clarion on September 28 and losses to Edinboro and Lock Haven on September 29.

Meanwhile, the Vulcans (24-3), ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region leaders of the PSAC Western Division, were led by a match-high 18 kills from Joanna Nist en route to their 23rd-straight victor which tied the team record for consecutive wins.

Not only are the Lady Raiders and Vulcans the leaders atop their respective divisions, but they are also first and second in the PSAC in overall wins.

Defensively, Shippensburg was led by junior Kelsi Hoffman (York/West York) who had 19 digs which were two short of her season-high set in a five-game win at Millersville on September 11. Sopohomore Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg) added nine digs while Roche totaled six.

The Lady Raiders play two crossover matches on Saturday, facing Slippery Rock at 10:00 a.m., before taking on Indiana (Pa.) at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are ranked fifth and sixth in the PSAC Western Division, respectively. Shippensburg is 5-20 against the six teams from the PSAC Western Division since 2004.
