Lady Raider Volleyball Upsets Lock Haven, Falls to Clarion on Day Two of PSAC Crossover

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Less than 20 hours after falling to West Chester in a five-game match in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Crossover (PSAC) at Heiges Field House, the Shippensburg Lady Raider volleyball team rallied from behind to upset Lock Haven in a thrilling five-game match Saturday afternoon.

Lock Haven took the opening game, 30-22, but Shippensburg battled back to win the second game 30-27. After Lock Haven took the third game 30-20, the Lady Raiders completed the victory with wins by scores of 30-24 and 15-13.

Shippensburg’s victory snapped an 11-match winning streak for Lock Haven (22-5). Entering the match, the Lady Eagles had won 18-of-19 matches, with their lone loss coming to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region’s top-ranked team, California (Pa.).

The Lady Raiders received a season-high 47 assists from sophomore Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville). DuVall tallied 44 in Friday’s match against West Chester, giving her 91 assists in back-to-back matches. She also added four service aces and 12 digs.

Freshman Kali Antolik (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) led the team with 16 kills, three block assists and a block solo. Fellow freshman Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfording Christian Academy) and senior Missy Pierce (Valparaiso, Ind./West Aurora (Ill.)) registered 12 kills.

But after playing the back-to-back five-game matches, the Lady Raiders ran out of gas and dropped a three-game match to Clarion, 22-30, 14-30, 21-30. Pierce paced the Lady Raiders with 12 kills, 10 digs and four service aces.

With the split on Saturday, the Lady Raiders’ moved their season record to 19-12 on the season.

Shippensburg returns to PSAC Eastern Division action on Tues., Oct. 17 at Heiges Field House against Kutztown. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
