Lady Raider Volleyball Falls Short Against Edinboro in PSAC Crossover

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg volleyball team battled back from a 2-0 deficit to send the match to a decisive fifth game before Edinboro rebounded in the fifth game to record a 3-2 win and sending Shippensburg to its second-straight defeat Friday evening at Heiges Field House.

Edinboro (16-12) breezed through the first two games by scores 30-26 and 30-23. Shippensburg (18-11) won the third game 30-22 and the fourth game 30-25. In the fifth, the Lady Raiders jumped out to an early lead, but Edinboro charged back to win 15-11.

Shippensburg, the host of the weekend's PSAC Crossover, received a team-high 17 kills from freshman Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfording Christian Academy). Young also tallied two block assists.

Fellow freshman Kali Antolik (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) recorded 12 kills and three block assists. Senior Missy Pierce (Valparaiso, Ind./West Aurora (Ill.)) posted 11 kills, two block solos, two block assists and a team-high 17 digs. Sophomore Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the team with a season-high 44 assists.

The PSAC Crossover, featuring three teams from the PSAC Eastern Division and three teams from the PSAC Western Division, continues at Heiges Field House Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., with West Chester taking on Edinboro and East Stroudsburg facing Clarion. Shippensburg faces Lock Haven at 1:00 p.m., and Clarion at 4:00 p.m.
