Volleyball Drops Fourth-Straight Match, 3-1 at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Despite 15 kills
and nine digs from freshman Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle, Pa./James
Buchanan),
the Shippensburg University volleyball team lost its fourth-straight match,
3-1, at Millersville University on Tuesday night. The Lady Raiders dropped
the season series with the Marauders and fell into a tie for fourth-place
in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division with
East Stroudsburg University.
Shippensburg (12-16, 3-3 PSAC East) hit just .127 as a team while Millersville
totaled 62 kills en route to the victory. The Marauders, who snapped a
six-match losing streak, won with scores of 30-24, 28-30, 30-27, 30-22.
Millersville also won the first meeting between the two teams earlier this
season on September 13.
After losing game one, Shippensburg edged out a victory in a closely fought
game two while hitting .356 and totaling 18 kills. Game two featured 14
ties and seven lead changes.
Sophomore Mandy Taylor (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern) totaled 12 kills for
the Lady Raiders while senior Michelle Doughty (Harrisburg, Pa./Central
Dauphin) added 10. Freshman Kelsi Hoffman (York, Pa./West
York) led the
defense with 23 digs while Doughty had 22 and junior Missy Pierce
(Valparaiso, Ind./West Aurora (IL)) contributed 16. Freshman Maureen
DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) totaled 45 assists.
Amy Ressler led the Marauders (11-12, 4-2 PSAC East) had a game-high 21
kills while hitting .312 for the match and Jennie Rohrbaugh and Jocelyn
Decker each recorded 29 digs.
Shippensburg returns to action on Thursday night, hosting the University
of Pittsburgh-Johnstown at 7:00 p.m., in Heiges Field House.
