Shippensburg Loses Two Matches on Final Day of Crossover

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped its final two matches at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover hosted by Slippery Rock University on Saturday, losing to California University (Pa.) and host Slippery Rock.

The Lady Raiders (12-15) lost to the Vulcans in four games in the first match of the day, 30-22, 30-16, 18-30, 30-25. Freshman Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) paced Shippensburg in defeat with 17 kills and 14 digs while freshman Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) posted 43 assists, four kills, four aces and 17 digs.

Senior Michelle Doughty (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) added nine kills and three service aces for the Lady Raiders.

In the Lady Raiders second match of the day, Slippery Rock needed only three games to come away with the victory, 30-25, 31-29, 30-16. Junior Erin Graf (Laurel, Md./Atholton) contributed 11 kills, one solo block and one block assist. Doughty posted eight kills and 15 digs as well.

Shippensburg returns to PSAC Eastern Division play on Tuesday with a trip to Millersville University. Start time is at 7:00 p.m. The Marauders defeated the Lady Raiders, 3-1, earlier this season on September 13.
