Volleyball Splits Two Matches At Wheeling Jesuit Tournament

WHEELING, W. Va. – The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team extended its win streak to four overall and 21 against teams from the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) with a 30-22, 30-20, 30-17 victory over Charleston (WV) on Saturday before dropping a 30-19, 30-23, 30-19 decision to host Wheeling Jesuit one the second and final day of the Wheeling Jesuit Tournament.

The Lady Raiders (22-7), who are now just two wins away from tying the school record for wins in a season, are 16-4 in tournament play this year. The loss to Wheeling Jesuit was the first for Shippensburg against a team from the WVIAC under fourth-year head coach Leanne Piscotty. The team is now 21-1 since 2004.

Against Charleston (WV), red-shirt sophomore Brittany Roche (Morrisville/Pennsbury) totaled 12 kills and eight digs while sophomores Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) and Kali Antolik (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) each had 11 kills and three block assists.

Junior Kelsi Hoffman (York/West York) had 19 digs and three services while junior Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) totaled two kills, 42 assists and two block assists.

Sophomore Hannah Sorber (Noxen/Lake-Lehman) added seven kills and three block assists while sophomore Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg) contributed four kills and eight digs.

Antolik added 10 more kills and one block assist against Wheeling Jesuit with Roche totaling nine kills. DuVall had two kills, 31 assists and one block solo and Hoffman totaled 18 digs.

Shippensburg will host the first of five consecutive home matches on Tuesday when it welcomes Millersville to Heiges Field House at 7:00 PM. The Marauders are currently in fourth place in the PSAC Eastern Division standings and fell at home to the Lady Raiders, 30-22, 30-32, 24-30, 30-18, 15-13 back on September 11.
