Antolik, Toomey Lead Lady Raiders on Day One of Wheeling Jesuit Tournament

WHEELING, W. Va. – Sophomore Kali Antolik (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) totaled 26 kills to lead the Shippensburg University women's volleyball team to two wins on the opening day of the Wheeling Jesuit Tournament as the Lady Raiders defeated Alderson-Broaddus 3-0 and West Virginia State, 3-2.
Shippensburg (21-6) has now won three-straight and 13 of its last 15, beating Alderson-Broaddus 30-21, 30-25, 30-14 and West Virginia State 21-30, 30-24, 21-30, 30-19, 15-10. It was Shippensburg's second win against Alderson-Broaddus this season after it swept the Battlers back on August 25 at the Roberts Wesleyan Tournament.
With their two wins, the Lady Raiders are now 4-0 against teams from the WVIAC this season and 20-0 under fourth-year head coach Leanne Piscotty who has led them to at least 21 wins in all four seasons and is 13 wins shy of 100 for her career.
The team is also only three wins shy of tying the school record for wins in a season set by the 1990 and 2006 squads with 13 matches remaining in the regular-season.
Against Alderson-Broaddus, Antolik totaled a team-high 13 kills while adding two block solos and two block assists. Red-shirt sophomore Brittany Roche (Morrisville/Pennsbury) had 11 kills and four digs and junior Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) totaled seven kills, 34 assists and six digs.
Sophomores Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg) and Hannah Sorber (Noxen/Lake-Lehman) also had strong all-around performances as Toomey had five kills, four blocks and four digs and Sorber had four kills, six assists and four blocks.
Sophomore Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) added six kills and five block assists while junior Kelsi Hoffman (York/West York) totaled eight digs and one service ace.
In the win versus West Virginia State, Toomey totaled her sixth double-double of the season with a season-high 19 kills and 10 digs. She also added three service aces. Toomey also had 19 kills in a five-game win over West Chester at home on September 18. Both totals are one short of her career-high.
Antolik added another 13 kills while DuVall totaled 11 kills, 47 assists and six digs. Roche and Young each had nine kills with Roche also contributing five digs and two service aces. Sorber had seven kills and Hoffman led the way defensively with a season-high 21 digs along with two service aces.
Shippensburg will wrap up competition in Wheeling on Saturday with two matches against Charleston (WV) at 2:00 PM and host Wheeling Jesuit at 4:00 PM.
