Volleyball's Young Named PSAC East Player of the Week

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg freshman Cindel Young (McConellsburg/Broadfording Christian Academy) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Young led the Red Raiders to a 5-0 week, and at the Shippensburg
Invitational, she totaled 40 kills, 14 block assists and three block
solos with a .400 hitting
percentage in four matches.
Against Ohio Valley,
she tallied a career high 16 kills and
a .560 hitting percentage with two block assists and a block solo. On the
same day, she posted six block assists and eight kills while committing just
one error against Virginia Union.
The following afternoon, she recorded 12 kills on 25 swings and recorded two service aces, one block solo and three block assists against Anderson, and in the invitational finale, she totaled three block assists and a block solo to go along with four kills on just 14 attempts.
Young is the first freshman to be named PSAC East Player of the Week in 2006. So far this season, she has appeared in 66 games and ranks first on the team with 62 blocks (24 block solos, 38 block assists). She is also third on the team with 140 kills.
