Brittany Roche Named PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week
Oct. 2, 2007
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University women’s volleyball red-shirt sophomore Brittany Roche (Morrisville/Pennsbury) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week on Tuesday, marking the third consecutive week a Lady Raider has won the award.
A Shippensburg played has been honored in three of the five weeks of the award as junior Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) received the honor last week on September 18 and sophomore Kali Antolik (Reading/Muhlenberg) earned it on September 11.
Roche led the team with 56 kills and seven service aces while adding 31 digs and eight blocks. The sophomore was an instrumental part of Shippensburg's 3-0 win over divisional rival Kutztown to give the Lady Raiders sole possession of the PSAC East at 4-0. In the match, she totaled her fourth double-double of the season, recording 13 kills and 10 digs.
In crossover play, Roche helped Shippensburg to a 3-2 win over the Clarion with her fifth double-double (19 kills, 10 digs). The win marked the Lady Raiders first victory over Clarion since Oct. 17, 1991. Also in crossover play against Edinboro, Roche added 20 kills, one short of her career-high, while posting nine digs and three blocks.
The Lady Raiders (18-6, 4-0 PSAC East) extended their winning streak to 10 following the win against Clarion are now just six wins shy of tying the school record for wins in a season with 16 regular season matches remaining. Last year, Shippensburg tied the record held by the 1990 team by winning 24 matches as it totaled a 24-13 record.
Tuesday night, the Lady Raiders travel to winless Cheyney looking to inch one-match closer to their best conference start in school history. The record is currently held by the 1990 team that went 10-0 in PSAC Eastern Division play while the 1991 and 1992 teams each started 6-0.
