Lady Raider Volleyball Caps Perfect Weekend at Shippensburg Invitational

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg volleyball team notched victories over Anderson (S.C.) and Davis & Elkins Saturday at Heiges Field House, capping a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Shippensburg Invitational.

The Lady Raiders (14-9) dispatched Anderson in four games, 30-19, 30-21, 19-30, 30-18. Later, Shippensburg cruised to a 3-0 win over Davis & Elkins by a score of 30-15, 30-18, 30-28.

Against Anderson, Shippensburg received excellent production from several freshmen, including a team-high 14 kills from Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg). Fellow freshman Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) recorded 12 kills, three block assists and a block solo. Freshman Missy Ramp (York/Central York) tallied 29 assists and nine digs.

Senior Missy Pierce (Valparaiso, Ind./West Aurora (Ill.)) posted 13 kills and 19 digs. She also added three service aces. Sophomore Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) contributed 30 assists and eight digs.

Pierce led the charge against Davis & Elkins, tallying a match-high 10 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Kali Antolik (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) recorded nine kills and two block solos. Young came through with three block assists and a block solo.

Pierce finished the weekend with 40 kills, bringing her career total to 1,122, which ranks third on Shippensburg’s career list. She also totaled 47 digs in the four matches, pushing her career total to 1,668 and now trails all-time career leader and former teammate Michelle Doughty by just 15 digs for first.

With two victories on Saturday, Shippensburg extended its winning streak to five matches. The Lady Raiders return to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division action on Tuesday, October 3 at Millersville. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
