Lady Raiders Perfect in Day One of Shippensburg Invitational

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg volleyball team played the role of host to perfection Friday night at Heiges Field House, winning both matches in the first day of the Shippensburg Invitational.

With the two victories, the Lady Raiders improved to 12-9 on the season. It's been an up-and-down year for the Lady Raiders as they opened the season with nine wins in 10 matches but then dropped nine straight. But after Friday's victories, the Lady Raiders have won three in a row.

In the opening match, Shippensburg breezed past Ohio Valley University in three games, 30-20, 30-24, 30-20.

The Lady Raiders made it two for two with a sweep of Virginia Union later in the evening. Ship opened the match with a 30-20 win and won the second game 30-24. In the third game, Virginia Union built 23-17 lead, but the Lady Raiders tallied seven of the next eight points to tie the game at 24. Ship then proceeded to take the game and the match by a 30-27 score.

A full day of competition at the Shippensburg Invitational in scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30. The day's first matches start at 10 a.m., and the Lady Raiders take on Anderson at 12:30 p.m. and Davis & Elkins at 5:30 p.m.
