Lady Raider Volleyball Falls in Three at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University snapped the Shippensburg University volleyball team's two-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division win streak with a three-game sweep on Tuesday night at Hollinger Field House. The Golden Rams snapped a three-match losing streak with scores of 30-26, 30-25, 30-28.
Shippensburg (9-9, 2-2 PSAC East) lost its third match out of the last four and finds itself in a three-way tie for third-place in the PSAC Eastern Division with Kutztown University and West Chester.
The Golden Rams (9-9, 2-2 PSAC East) took a 1-0 lead in the match with a four-point victory in the opening game before taking game two by five points. The Lady Raiders kept things close in the third game, but West Chester edged out a 30-28 victory.
Pacing Shippensburg was senior Michelle Doughty (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin). She posted a team-high in kills and digs with 12 and 14, respectively. She also contributed three service aces. Freshman Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) also posted 14 digs to go along with five kills.
Freshman Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the squad with 30 assists and added five kills, seven digs, one block solo and one block assist. Freshman Kelly Dirks (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) posted seven kills, two digs and two blocks.
The Lady Raiders travel to Clarion University this weekend and will play four non-conference contests at the Holiday Inn Classic on Friday and Saturday. The first match for the Lady Raiders in slated for 4:00 p.m., against PSAC Western Division member Slippery Rock University.
