Ship Totals 31 Service Aces in 3-0 Win at Cheyney

CHEYNEY, Pa. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team won its second-straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match by quickly dispatching of Cheyney University on the road in three games.

The Lady Raiders (9-6, 2-1 PSAC East) totaled a season-high 31 services aces en route to the three-game victory, 30-12, 30-11, 30-6. Last year, Shippensburg totaled a school record 40 service aces at Cheyney (0-6, 0-3 PSAC East) on October 7, 2004.

On Tuesday, the Lady Raiders received strong performances from a host of young players, led by freshman Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) who registered three kills 18 assists and a career-best 10 service aces.

Sophomore Mandy Taylor (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern) recorded six kills, six aces, two digs and two block solos. Junior Trisha Jorda (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) contributed two kills, two service aces and two digs while freshman Leslie Serrano (LeMasters, Pa./James Buchanan) added three kills, four aces, one dig and one block solo.

Sophomore Brianna Williams (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) had a strong match with four kills, six aces and seven digs. Junior Erin Graf (Laurel, Md./Atholton) turned in five kills, three aces, two digs and two block solos.

Shippensburg returns to action on Friday at East Stroudsburg University in the first day PSAC Crossover. The Lady Raiders will play three matches over the weekend, opening against defending PSAC champion Lock Haven University at 7:15 p.m., on Friday night. Last season, the Lady Eagles defeated Shippensburg in the conference tournament championship game.
