Hoffman Leads Lady Raiders Past Second-Place Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Freshman Kelsi Hoffman (York, Pa./West York) set a school-record with 40 digs as the Shippensburg University volleyball team had a come-from-behind, five-game victory at Kutztown University on Saturday.
The Lady Raiders (8-6, 1-1 PSAC East) defeated the Golden Bears with game scores of 21-30, 30-27, 28-30, 30-25, 15-4. Kutztown (9-1, 1-1 PSAC East) entered the game in second-place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings.
Trailing two games to one, Shippensburg took the final two games to win the match.
Against Millersville University at home on Tuesday, Hoffman tied the school record set by junior Missy Pierce (Valparaiso, Ind./West Aurora) in 2003 with 39 digs. Hoffman has totaled 79 digs over the last two matches, an average of 8.8 per game.
Freshman Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led Shippensburg with 48 assists and 19 digs. She also added six kills and posted a .400 hitting percentage. Freshman Ashleigh Helfrick (Green Castle, Pa./James Buchanan) posted 17 kills and 18 digs.
Senior Michelle Doughty (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Pierce contributed 17 and 10 kills, respectively for Shippensburg while Doughty added 18 digs and Pierce chipped in with 17.
The victory was Shippensburg's first PSAC win of the season. The Lady Raiders return to action on Tuesday when they visit Cheyney. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
