Doughty, Duvall Named to All-Tournament Team at Spiketacular Classic

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - After winning two matches on Friday to open the Millersville University/Dutch Country Spiketacular Classic on Friday, the Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped both of its matches on Saturday, losing to Dowling College and Adelphia University.
Shippensburg (7-5) opened the day against Dowling, but fell in three games, 32-30, 30-20, 30-24. Freshman Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the way with five kills and 24 assists while senior Michelle Doughty (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) recorded seven kills and 15 digs. Freshman Kelly Dirks (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added seven kills to the cause.
In the final match versus Adelphi, the Lady Raiders took the first game, but then dropped three-straight, losing the match by scores of 30-23, 25-30, 26-30, 19-30.
Junior Missy Pierce (Valparaiso, Ind./West Aurora (IL)) led the way with 11 kills and 18 digs. DuVall added 10 kills, 14 digs and four service aces. Freshman Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) chipped in with seven kills, 14 digs and three aces.
Despite the two losses on Saturday, Duvall and Doughty joined 11 other players from eight schools on the All-Tournament Team.
The Lady Raiders welcome Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division rival Millersville to Shippensburg on Tuesday. Last season, the Lady Raiders edged out the Marauders for the Eastern Division regular-season championship. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
