Volleyball Wins First Two Matches at Spiketacular Classic

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - This Shippensburg University volleyball team earned a pair of victories on Friday at the 10th Annual Millersville University/Dutch Country Spiketacular Classic.

The Lady Raiders (7-3) cruised in their opener against Glenville State College, needing only three games to earn the victory, winning by scores of 30-12, 30-13, 30-20. Shippensburg was equally as impressive in its second match, defeating the University of New Haven 3-0 (30-15, 30-18, 30-20).

Against New Haven, freshman Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the way with seven kills, 20 assists and six digs. Junior Missy Pierce (Valpraraiso, Ind./West Aurora (IL)), playing in her first match of the season, provided 10 kills, three assists, 22 digs and two service aces.

Freshman Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) contributed four kills, 16 digs and two aces.

The Lady Raiders return to action with two matches on Saturday, facing Dowling College and Adelphia University.
