Roche, Toomey Lead Lady Raiders to Another Split at Dutch Country Spiketacular

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Junior Brittany Roche (Morrinsville/Pennsbury) and sophomore Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg) combined for 37 kills Saturday as the Shippensburg University volleyball team again went 1-1 at the Dutch Country Spiketacular being hosted by Millersville University.

The Lady Raiders (9-4) dropped a morning contest in four games to Adelphi 26-30, 30-26, 30-27 and 32-30 before sweeping Salem International in the afternoon 30-12, 30-11 and 30-19.

In the opener against Adelphi, Roche led Shippensburg in kills for the fifth time in the last seven matches, totaling 13 en route to a .285 hitting percentage. She also added three digs, one block solo and one block assist.

Toomey added nine kills in the opening match and delivered eight more in the afternoon to total 17 over two matches. She led the Lady Raiders Saturday with seven service aces and also recorded 10 digs.

Sophomore Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) had an impressive match against Salem International, recording eight kills on 10 attempts. She finished the day with 14 kills, and also recorded seven block assists against Adelphi.

Junior libero Kelsi Hoffman (York/West York) and junior Karey Toms (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) led the defense with 10 digs each in the opener against Adelphi, while sophomore Kali Antolik (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) finished the day with 13 kills.

Junior Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) delivered 40 assists and two service aces over the course of the two matches. She is just four aces away from tying former teammate Michelle Doughty and Deb Smith for the fifth-highest total in Shippensburg history.

Shippensburg will travel back to Millersville on Tuesday to open its conference play in the PSAC Eastern Division. The match against the Marauders begins at 7:00 PM.
