DuVall Leads Lady Raider Volleyball to Split on First Day of Dutch Country Spiketacular

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Junior Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) totaled 12 kills, 36 assists, four digs, three service aces and one block assist as the Shippensburg University volleyball team went 1-1 on the first day of the Dutch Country Spiketacular being hosted at Millersville Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Raiders (8-3) defeated Wilmington (Delaware) in the opener Friday afternoon 30-25, 30-26 and 30-25 before losing their second match to Dowling 30-23, 30-20 and 30-21.
Against Wilmington, junior Brittany Roche (Morrinsville/Pennsbury) led Shippensburg in kills for the fourth time in the last five matches as she totaled 10 while posting a .250 hitting percentage. She also had five digs, two block solos and two block assists.

DuVall had seven kills in seven attempts against the Wildcats while totaling 17 assists, three service aces, three digs and one block assist. Meanwhile, sophomore Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) also added seven kills along with three block assists. Junior libero Kelsi Hoffman (Yok/West York) led the defense with 14 digs.

Roche also totaled 10 kills and five digs versus Dowling while adding a block assist. After missing the first four matches of the season at the season opening Roberts Wesleyan Tournament, the transfer from Georgia State has totaled 90 kills and a .273 hitting percentage in seven mathes, leading the team in kills five times.

Sophomore Kali Antolik (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) had six kills, two block assists and a block solo and DuVall totaled five kills in just six attempts along with 19 assists and one dig. Her final kill of the match against the Golden Lions was the 300th of DuVall's career.

Through 11 matches this season, DuVall has a .689 hitting percentage while averaging 4.18 kills per match and 1.31 per game. For her career, she is hitting .446 in 563 attempts and is well on her way to setting a new school record in hitting percentage by players with at least 750 attempts which is currently held by Kristie Kemper who had a .328 hitting percentage from 1990-93.

DuVall also has a team-high 283 assists this season and 2,147 for her career which is 643 behind Heather Wilton for second on the school's career list. With her three service aces against Wilmington, she now has 147 for her career and is just six away from tying former teammate Michelle Doughty and Deb Smith for the fifth-highest total in Shippensburg history.

Hoffman is also moving up in the record book at Shippensburg as she added nine more digs against Dowling, raising her career total 1,239. She entered the season in third place on the school's career digs list and is now 444 from tying Doughty and 608 from current assistant coach Missy Pierce's record of 1,847.

Shippensburg will play two more matches at the Dutch Country Spiketacular on Saturday, facing Adelphi at 10:00 AM before taking on Salem International at 2:00 PM.
