Elizabethtown Snaps Volleyball's Six-Match Win Streak

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end at Division III Elizabethtown on Tuesday as the Blue Jays defeated the Lady Raiders 30-20, 25-30, 30-23, 28-30 and 15-12.
Elizabethtown (3-0) remained unbeaten on the season and was led by Kelly Downs who totaled a match-high 21 kills, including the final winner on match point in the fifth and deciding game.
Shippensburg (7-2) totaled 66 kills as a team, led by 16 from junior Brittany Roche (Morrinsville/Pennsbury) and hit .264, but were hampered by 14 service errors, eight reception errors and four ball-handling errors.
Roche led three players who totaled double-figures in kills as sophomores Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg) and Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) had 15 and 14 kills, respectively. The trio hit .340 as a group, totaling 45 of the team's 66 kills with only 10 errors in 103 attempts.
Roche also had nine digs while Toomey added eight. Junior Kelsi Hoffman (York/West York) led the team with 12 digs.
Sophomore Missy Ramp (York/Central York) totaled a season-high 32 assists while junior Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) added 23. Ramp also added a season-high 11 digs which was four short of her career-high of 15 set at Millersville on Oct. 3, 2006.
As a team, Elizabethtown was credited with 85 digs as five players totaled 10 or more led by a match-high 20 from Kayla Kassis.
Shippensburg will return to action on Friday when it travels to Millersville to compete in the two-day Dutch County Spiketacular. The Lady Raiders play Wilmington (Delaware) at 2:00 PM on Friday before taking on Dowling at 4:00 PM.
