Volleyball Sweeps Holy Family in Final Match of Raider Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's volleyball team continued its best start since 1992 with a three-game sweep over Holy Family to conclude play at the Raider Classic Saturday at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg cruised through three games, 30-14, 30-11, 30-21. With the victory, the Lady Raiders improved their record to 6-1 on the season.
Senior Missy Pierce (Valparaiso, Ind./West Aurora (Ill.)) led Shippensburg with a match-high 14 kills and posted a .500 hitting percentage. She also added a team-high nine digs and a team-high three service aces. In three matches at the Raider Classic, Pierce recorded 41 kills and committed just five errors while posting a hitting percentage of .522.
The Lady Raiders also received a fine performance from freshman Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg) who tallied seven kills on just 10 attempts. Freshman Miranda Wenger (Chambersburg/Chambersburg) posted eight kills, a block assist and a service ace.
Freshman Cindel Young (McConnellsburg/Broadfoarding Christian) recorded five kills, one block solo, two block assists and a service ace, as well.
Also, Shippensburg's two freshman setters, Missy Ramp (York/Central York) and Renee Parseghian combined for 42 assists, 20 and 22, respectively.
The Lady Raiders put their six-match winning streak on the line Tuesday when they take on Elizabethtown at Heiges Field House. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
