Lady Raiders Win Both Matches on Last Day of Raider Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team capped its weekend as host to the 13-team Raider Classic with a pair of victories over Ohio Valley University and New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Lady Raiders made quick work of both opponents, needing only six games to earn the two victories.
The Lady Raiders (3-1) dispatched Ohio Valley in convincing fashion, defeating the Fighting Scots, 30-21, 30-24, 30-20. Senior Michelle Doughty (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) led the way with 13 kills and eight digs.
Freshman Maureen DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the team in digs with 15. She also added four aces while feshman Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle, Pa./James Buchanan) added 10 digs and four aces.
In Shippensburg's second match of the afternoon, the Lady Raiders drilled 44 kills in three games as they rolled, 30-16, 30-12, 30-28 over NJIT.
Doughty once again paced Shippensburg with 13 kills while DuVall and freshman Kelly Dirks (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded nine and seven kills, respectively. Sophomore Mandy Taylor (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern) posted a team-best 11 digs and four aces.
The Lady Raiders return to the court on Friday at the SVC Bearcat Challenge hosted by Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. The team's first contest is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., versus Allegheny College. The team will then face Saint Vincent at 7:30 p.m.
