Lady Raider Volleyball Wins Final Two Matches at Ram Rumble Tournament

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. - After opening the 2006 season with a split at the Ram Rumble Tournament hosted by Shepherd, the Shippensburg volleyball team swept both of its matches on Saturday, defeating Shepherd and LeMoyne, 3-0.

The Lady Raiders defeated Shepherd 30-21, 30-27, 30-22 before beating LeMoyne 30-24, 30-24, 30-21.

Shippensburg was led by three-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division selection, junior Missy Pierce (Valparaiso, Ind./West Aurora (IL)) who totaled 22 kills and 22 digs in both matches. Freshman Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg) also added 17 kills.

Against the host Rams, Pierce and senior Erin Graf (Laurel, Md./Atholton) each had 10 kills while Toomey had nine as the trio accounted for 29 of the team's 40 kills. Defensively, the Lady Raiders were led by sophomore libero Kelsi Hoffman (York/West York) with 11 digs and sophomore Mandy Taylor (Hanover/South Western) who added 10.

Freshman Missy Ramp totaled 34 assists as the Lady Raiders hit a four-match high of .241 with 40 kills in 116 attempts and only 12 errors.

In the second match versus LeMoyne, Shippensburg posted a .237 hitting percentage, totaling a four-match high of 45 kills, 12 of which came from Pierce. She hit .270, totaling a team-high 14 kills while Toomey added eight kills.

Hoffman totaled 10 more digs and Taylor had eight in addition to her six kills. Ramp totaled 28 assists.

Shippensburg returns home to host the Raider Classic in Heiges Field House on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Raiders open play against Bowie State at 4:00 p.m., before facing Barton at 6:00 p.m.
