Volleyball Captures Silver Bracket Championship at Roberts Wesleyan Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Led by the offense
of sophomore Colleen Toomey (Reading/Muhlenberg), the Shippensburg University
women's volleyball won two matches on Saturday afternoon to capture the
silver bracket championship of the Roberts Wesleyan Tournament. The Lady
Raiders defeated Alderson-Broaddus 30-28, 38-36 and 30-15 before dropping
Roberts Wesleyan 30-20, 30-28 and 30-15.
The only loss during the tournament for Shippensburg (3-1) came on Friday
night to Westmont College who went undefeated to capture the title in the
gold bracket on Saturday.
Toomey totaled 28 kills in the Lady Raiders' two victories, posting 15
in the victory over Alderson-Broaddus along with 18 digs and two service
aces. Also against the Rattlers, sophomore Kali Antolik (Johnstown/Westmont
Hilltop) added 10 kills and five service aces, sophomore Maureen
DuVall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) totaled seven kills, six service aces and
42 assists and freshman Hannah Sorber (Noxon/Lake-Lehman) had seven kills.
The win against Alderson-Broaddus improved fourth-year Shippensburg head
coach Leanne Piscotty's record to 17-0 against teams from the West Virginia
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Against Roberts Wesleyan, Shippensburg was led by Toomey's 13 kills and
.400 hitting percentage as she committed just one error in 30 attempts.
She also added another service ace and two digs. Sorber continued her strong
play in just her fourth collegiate match as she totaled a career-high nine
kills. Sophomore Renee Parseghian (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) had five
service aces and nine digs while Duvall added two more kills and 20 assists.
Shippensburg returns home where it will open the home portion of its 2007
schedule when it hosts the Raider Classic on Friday and Saturday at Heiges
Field House. The Lady Raiders will play Philadelphia at 4:00 PM before
taking on Anderson (S.C.) at 8:00 PM.
