Lady Raiders Finish Third At Ursinus Classic With Four First-Place Finishes

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - On the
strength of four first-place finishes and eight top-five finishes, the
Shippensburg women’s indoor track and field team earned third place
at the 2007 Ursinus Classic on Saturday. The Lady Raiders totaled 86 points,
53 points behind first-place Towson.
Shippensburg once again displayed strong performances in distance events,
winning both the 800-meter and the 1-mile run. Sophomore Mary Dell
(Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs) won the 800-meter run by more than two seconds over
Lara Paulsen of Johns Hopkins, recording a time of 2:18.94.
Freshman Abby Huber (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) won the 1-mile run
by more than five seconds over Towson’s Michelle Donadio, recording
a time of 5:14.56. The final first-place finisher of the day was sophomore
Krysten Goetter (Ambler/Hatboro-Horsham), who won the shot put with a heave
of 38 feet, 1.25 inches.
After nearly besting the school record in 400-meter relay at the Bison Opener
last week, the team of freshman Laura Henzy (Langhorne/Neshaminy) sophomore
Shannon Hare (Middletown/Middletown), and freshmen Erica
Hess (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) and Donnell Hodges (Camp
Hill/Cedar Cliff) earned first place with a time
of 4:02.07.
Henzy and Hare also finished third and fourth respectively in the 400-meter
dash. Henzy finished in 1:00.06 while Hare nearly matched her time with a
finish of 1:00.16.
Freshman Crista Raymond (Hershey/Milton Hershey) finished second in the pole
vault with a vault of nine-feet, six inches while junior Karen Good
(Terre Hill/Garden Spot) took home fourth place in the triple jump with a jump of
10.47 meters.
Also on Saturday, junior Siobahn Richards (York Haven/York Haven) finished
in third place with a time of 26.89 seconds in the 200-meter dash, while
Hess finished fourth in 27.14 seconds.
Shippensburg will have the remainder of the month off, and will return to
action on Friday, January 11 at the PSAC East Challenge from Kutztown. Competition
will begin at 10:30 a.m.
