Lady Raiders Take First-Place at DuCharme Invitational on Friday

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Shippensburg women’s indoor track and field team took home top honors with a team score of 188.5 points on Friday evening at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson. A total of eight first-place finishes and seven second-place finishes help guide Shippensburg to the team victory.

In the women’s 55-meter dash, freshman Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs) took first-place with a time of 7.52 seconds while freshman Shannon Hare (Middletown/Middletown) took third-place with a time of 7.61 seconds.

Freshman Renee Crane (Waymart/Western Wayne), sophomore Michelle Morcom (Moscow/Western Wayne), freshman Tiana Smith (Philadelphia/Archbishop Penderghast) and sophomore Leslie Serrano (LeMasters/James Buchanan) took fifth through eighth.

Morcom earned her own-first place finish of the day, taking home top honors in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.96 seconds.

Freshman Casey Drummond (Maple Glen/Upper Dublin) earned top honors in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters, while senior Stacey Wilcher (Harleysville/Souderton) won the pole vault by scaling 10 feet, 6-inches.

Shippensburg finished one and two in the weight throw as well with senior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill/Honesdale) earning first-place with a throw of 15.64 meters and freshman Krysten Goetter (Ambler/Hatboro-Horsham) finishing second with a toss of 11.57 meters.

Hare took second place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.52 seconds, while sophomore Amanda Spickler (Myersville/Middletown) took second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.94.

Other second place finishers for Shippensburg included Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle/James Buchanan) in the long jump (16-feet, 10-inches), sophomore Karen Good (Terre Hill/Garden Spot) in the triple jump (33-feet, 3.75-inches) and Goetter in the shot put (35-feet, 7-inches).

Shippensburg’s 'A' squad won all three of the relay events as well to cap off a high-scoring day for the Lady Raiders.

Shippensburg will next return to action on Saturday, January 20 in the Bucknell Heptagonal.
