Dell, Schweighofer Named to USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team

Shippensburg women’s track and field freshman Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs) and senior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill/Honesdale) were recently named to the 2007 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Division II All-Academic Track and Field Team.

The two were part of 180 student-athletes representing 57 Division II colleges and universities on the 2007 All-Academic team. In addition, the Shippensburg women’s track and field team was one of 44 Division II women’s programs recognized as a 2007 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, nine of which came from the PSAC.

As a team, Shippensburg boasted a 3.080 cumulative grade point average. To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative GPA.

Dell, the 2007 PSAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year, finished her first collegiate season with a 3.932 GPA. A biology and secondary education major, she placed fourth in the 400-meter dash at the PSAC outdoor championships while serving as a member of the 1,600-meter relay team that finished third.

Dell also placed in three events at the PSAC indoor championships, taking second in the 400-meter dash, fifth in the 200-meter dash and eighth in the 55-meter dash while also anchoring Shippensburg's 4x400-meter relay team that finished fourth.

Meanwhile, Schweighofer graduated in May with a 3.644 GPA and bachelor’s degree in elementary education. At the PSAC indoor championships, she took home her first individual championship in the weight throw.

At the PSAC outdoor championships, Schweighofer captured the title in the hammer throw after entering the event as the top-seed and finishing third a year ago. She also placed fifth in the discus. She also graduates as the school record holder in the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer throw.

Schweighofer was also named to the 2006 USTFCCCA Women's Indoor Track Academic All-American Team.

The USTFCCCA honors Division II individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track season.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, one must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and obtain an NCAA qualifying mark in their respective event.
