Lady Raider Track Fourth at PSAC Outdoor Championships Second-Straight Year

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
Much like the men's team, the Shippensburg women's track and field team's performance in the 4x400-meter relay affected its final place in the overall team standings as the Lady Raiders placed fourth for the second consecutive year at the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium.

Trailing East Stroudsburg by two points headed into the 1,600-meter relay, the team of freshman Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs), sophomore Siobhan Richards (York Haven/York Haven), senior Julie Riccardo (Exton/Bishop McDevitt) and freshman Shannon Hare (Middletown/Middletown) took third-place.

Meanwhile, East Stroudsburg finished fifth, giving the Lady Raiders the two extra points needed to tie the Warriors.

Shippensburg finished with a total of 81 points while Slippery Rock won its 13th overall championship, including third-straight with a total of 189.50 points. Kutztown was second with 115.50 points and Lock Haven was third with 112 points.

Individually, Richards was second in the 100-meter dash and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles while Dell placed fourth in the 400-meter dash and Riccardo was fifth in the 200-meter dash. Hare also placed sixth in the 400.

Senior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill/Honesdale) won her first career individual championship in the hammer throw with a mark of 165' 1". She entered the event as the top-seed after finishing third a year ago. She would also placed fifth in the discus.

In the javelin, sophomore Lindsey Housholder (Lewistown/Lewistown) took third-place with a mark of 132' 4" with was over seven-feet further than her seventh-seeded throw of 124' 10".

Sophomore Michelle Morcom (Moscow/Western Wayne), who was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles, took third in the 100-meter hurdles as the top-three finishers placed exactly as they were seeded with Slippery Rock's Andi Rose first and West Chester's Danielle Scardino second.

Shippensburg‚s 4x100-meter relay team of Richards, Hare, Riccardo and Dell placed third in a time of 48.53 seconds, 0.02 ahead of fourth-place Kutztown.

Selections for the 2007 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be available on Tuesday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. on ncaasports.com with the event taking place May 24-26 at the Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, North Carolina and hosted by Johnson C. Smith University.
