Wilcher Second in Pole Vault, Lady Raiders Fifth at PSAC Championships

Senior Stacey Wilcher (Harleysville/Souderton) placed second in the pole vault to lead the Shippensburg women's track and field team to a fifth-place showing following the first full day of competition at the 2007 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted at Shippensburg's Seth Grove Stadium.

The Lady Raiders are currently in fifth-place with a total of 25 points, four ahead of sixth-place Indiana (Pa.) and 14 behind fourth-place East Stroudsburg. Slippery Rock currently leads the 29th annual championship with 76.50 points.

Wilcher, who entered the event seeded eighth, placed third in the pole vault at the PSAC championships in 2005 and was just short of her career-best and school-record mark of 10' 11.75".

In the javelin, sophomore Lindsay Housholder (Lewistown/Lewistown) finished third with a throw of 132' 4" that was over seven-feet further than her seventh-seeded mark of 124' 10" set at the PSAC East Challenge.

Junior Casey Drummond (Maple Glen/Upper Dublin) placed fifth in the high jump with a new career-best leap of 5' 3.75" while sophomore Alli Rineer (Lititz/Warwick) took sixth in the 10,000-meter run.

Other notable placewinners for Shippensburg included sophomore Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle/James Buchanan) who finished seventh in the heptathlon and senior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill/Honesdale) and freshman Krysten Goetter (Ambler/Hatboro-Horsham) both placed eighth in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively.

In addition to their six placewinners, the Lady Raiders qualified for Saturday finals in six events, led by sophomore Siobhan Richards (York Haven/York Haven) and freshman Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs) who were each third in the 100-meter dash and 400-meter dash, respectively.

Richards and Dell also teammed with freshman Shannon Hare (Middletown/Middletown) and senior Julie Riccardo (Exton/Bishop McDevitt) to qualify third in the 4x100-meter relay. Hare also qualified in the 400-meter dash while freshman Michelle Morcom (Moscow/Western Wayne) came in third in the 100-meter hurdles and fifth in the 400 hurdles.

Richards also qualified sixth in the 400 hurdles while Riccardo was seventh in the 200-meter dash.

The final day of competition at the 2007 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships begins Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.
