Helfrick and Grussenmeyer Compete in Heptathlon on First Day of PSAC Championships

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Shippensburg University freshmen Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Kristina Grussenmeyer (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) opened the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, competing in the first four events of the heptathlon.
Grussenmeyer and Helfrick took fourth and fifth place respectively in the 100 meter hurdles. In the high jump, Grussenmeyer grabbed first place with a height of 1.39 meters. Helfrick, however, failed to finished.
Helfrick bounced back with a strong fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 28 feet 11 inches. Grussenmeyer finished eighth with a toss of 25-feet-five inches.
Grussenmeyer capped the afternoon with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Helfrick placed sixth.
The Men’s and Women’s Track & Field PSAC Championships continue on Friday at Adamson Stadium in California, Pa.
