Lady Raiders Earn 25 Top-10 Finishes at Elete IUP Open

INDIANA, Pa. - Junior Monica Speca (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) finished in a three-way tie for first place in the high jump to mark just one of 25 top-10 finishes for the Shippensburg University women’s track and field team at the 33rd Elete IUP Open held at Indiana University (Pa.).

Speca finished in the tie for first place along with IUP’s Casie Williams and Juniata’s Kelsey Buffenmyer. All three made the jump of 5-feet, 3-inches, as Speca tied her previous best mark on the season originally set at the Fred Hardy Invitational.

Junior Julie Riccardo (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished a strong day in sprints by taking second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.5 seconds. Earlier in the day, Riccardo earned fourth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.1 seconds while senior Flo Yerokun (Perkiomenville, Pa./Spring-Ford) placed seventh with a dash of 13.4 seconds.

In throws, senior Sonia Spriggs (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) took third place in the shot put with a toss of 39-feet, 4-inches as well as third place in the discus throw with a throw of 119-feet. Junior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill, Pa./Honesdale) finished in third place for the hammer throw with a toss of 145-feet, 5-inches.

In mid-distance events, freshman Kristen McGoldrick (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) and senior Lindsey Incorvati (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Township) took third and fourth places respectively in the 800-meter run with times of 2:21.70 and 2:23.00.

In distance events, senior Lindsey Govern (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) finished in sixth place for the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:50.80, while sophomore Bridget Danner (Etters, Pa./Red Land) took eighth place with a run of 10:59.30.

In the 100-meter hurdles, senior Anna Mack (Olyphant, Pa./Lakeland) finished in a tie for second place with IUP’s Gabrielle Hoffman, as the runners each placed with a time of 16.4 seconds.

Freshman Courtney Kostich (Thompsontown, Pa./East Juniata) tied for sixth place with a mark of 16.8 seconds while fellow freshman Kristina Grussenmeyer (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) took eighth place with a time of 17.1 seconds. Kostich also finished in second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.10.

The 100-meter relay team of Yerokun, Riccardo, Mack and freshman Siobhan Richards (York Haven, Pa./York Haven) took second place with a time of 50.42 seconds. Slippery Rock University took first place with a time of 48.56 seconds.

The men's and women's track and field teams return to action on Thursday, April 27 at the prestigious Penn Relays before returning home for the Paul Kaiser Invitational this weekend at Seth Grove Stadium.
