Apr. 7, 2007

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -
The Shippensburg men's and women's track and field teams recorded three victories in the hammer throw and javelin throw Friday night at the PSAC East Challenge hosted at Millersville, but due to the extreme cold and windy conditions, the second day of competition was cancelled.

Senior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill/Honesdale) took home first-place for the women in the hammer throw while sophomore David Green (Waynesboro/South Western) and senior Nate Reider (York/Dallastown) each took home victories in the men's hammer and javelin throw, respectively.

Reider also placed second behind Green in the hammer throw as the two highlighted a total of nine placewinners for Shippensburg.

Also, Schweighofer and sophomore Lindsey Housholder (Lewistown/Lewistown) were a part of six placewinners for the Lady Raiders. Housholder placed second in the javelin throw.

Schweighofer's mark of 163-feet, 3-inches in the weight throw is the top mark in the PSAC this season, over four-feet farther than Gretchen Colwell of Indiana (Pa.) whose throw of 158-feet, 10-inches is currently second.

In the javelin, Housholder's mark of 124-feet, 10-inches was a personal best this season and good enough for sixth-place in the PSAC this season.

For the men, the Red Raiders had four individuals record season-best performances in the hammer throw, led by Green's mark of 166-feet, 1-inch that is the second-farthest throw in the conference this season.

Meanwhile, Reider, junior Justin Ackerman (Broomal/Marple Newton) and sophomore Shaun Minnich (Churchville/Council Rock South) each recorded personal bests to rank fourth, sixth and seventh in the PSAC.

In the javelin, Reider's mark of 209-feet, 10-inches was also a personal best this season and just five inches behind Kenneth Cardullo of East Stroudsburg who currently leads the conference with a mark of 210-feet, 3-inches.

The men's and women's track and field teams return to action next Friday, April 13 at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell.
