Lady Raider Track Totals Four Top-5 Finishes on First Day of Fred Hardy Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Allison
Rineer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), junior Monica Speca (Mechanicsburg,
Pa./Trinity) and freshman Christine Kihm (Quakertown,
Pa./Quakertown) each had third-place
finishes to lead the Shippensburg University women's track and field team
on the first day of competition at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by
the University of Richmond on Friday.
Rineer placed third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:55.74, one
of just three runners to break the 39-minute mark. Christy Totten of Bucknell
University took first-place in a time of 38:30.81 while Holly Bofinger
of Lock Haven University was second with a mark of 38:54.35.
Speca tied for third in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters, tying
her with Frankie Moore of Virginia Commonwealth. Tanika Brown of Virginia
Commonwealth won the event with a mark of 1.70 meters to set a new Fred
Hardy Track & Field Facility record. Speca finished second in the high
jump at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track
and Field Championships held in February.
Meanwhile, Kihm continued her stellar first-year as a collegian, placing
third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.20 meters, a mark that was equalled
by junior teammate Stacey Wilcher (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton). During
the indoor season, Kihm broke the school record in the pole vault twice
and currently holds the new mark of 11-feet, 3 3/4-inches which she set
at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on February 3.
Freshman Siobhan Richards (York Haven, Pa./York Haven) placed fourth in
the 400-meter hurdles and junior Christine Welker (Corapolis, Pa./Upper
Moreland) was sixth in the 10,000 meters.
Also, freshman Courtney Kostich (Thompsontown, Pa./East Juniata), sophomore
Casey Drummond (Marple Glenn, Pa./Upper Dublin), sophomore Megan
Fogle (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) and junior Megan
Schweighofer (Tyler Hill, Pa./Honesdale) each had top-10 finishes for the Lady Raiders.
Competition at the Fred Hardy Invitational continues on Saturday beginning
at 9:00 a.m., with the men's and women's discus.
