Richards, Wilcher Take First as Lady Raiders Impress at Early Bird Invite

RICHMOND, Va. - With the indoor
season over, the Shippensburg University women’s track and field
team began its outdoor season with a solid showing Saturday at the Early
Bird Invite held at Radford University.
Sophomore Siobhan Richards (York Haven/York Haven) took first in the 400-meter
hurdles, clocking in at 1:11.7 for the event. Freshman Shannon Hare
(Middletown/Middletown) finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.8 seconds, while
fellow frosh Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs) had her own second-place
finish in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:03.6 seconds. Sophomore Michelle
Morcom (Moscow/Western Wayne) came in third in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking
in at 15.5 seconds.
In the pole vault, senior Stacey Wilcher (Harleysville/Souderton) took home
first place, clearing 2.75 meters. In the high jump, junior Casey
Drummond (Maple Glen/Upper Dublin) and senior Monica Speca
(New Cumberland/Trinity),
PSAC field athlete of the week earlier in the season, each tied for fourth.
Senior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill/Honesdale) competed in the hammer throw,
finishing second with a toss of 46.94 meters. Meanwhile, freshman Erica
Koser (Mount Joy/Elizabethtown) and sophomore Lindsey Householder
(Lewistown/Lewistown) finished third and fourth respectively in the javelin throw.
The Lady Raiders return to action this Friday in Richmond, Virginia. The
Fred Hardy Invitational start time will be announced in the future.
