Lady Raiders in Fourth Place After First Day at PSAC Indoor Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women’s indoor track and field team currently stands in fourth place at the 2008 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships being hosted by East Stroudsburg at Koehler Fieldhouse. Several Lady Raiders have qualified for Sunday's finals and Shippensburg currently stands in fourth place with 24 points through six events.
Lock Haven holds an early lead with 46 points, followed by Millersville with 36 and Kutztown with 35.
Shippensburg won the 4x800-meter relay to provide its lone victory of the day as the quartet of sophomore Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs), and freshmen Emily Dubs (Dover/Northeastern), Jamie McCollum (Duncannon/Susquenita) and Abby Huber (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) finished in 9:27.04. The Lady Raiders bested Kutztown by 1.9 seconds.
The record-breaking distance medley relay squad of Huber, freshman Amanda Dubs (Dover/Northeastern), McCollum and Dell was not able to best Millersville, placing second with a time of 12:05.22. The Marauder squad placed first in a time of 12:04.08.
Junior Samantha Jones (Chambersburg/Chambersburg) finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:26.27, while junior Kristina Grussenmyer (Holland/Council Rock South) and junior Ashleigh Helfrick (Greencastle/James Buchanan) finished seventh and 10th respectively in the indoor pentathlon to provide Shippensburg with most of their points on Saturday.
Junior Siobhan Richards (York Haven/York Haven) qualified for the 55 and 200-meter dash, while sophomore Shannon Hare (Middletown/Middletown), freshman Erica Hess (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) and freshman Laura Henzy (Langhorne/Neshaminy) all qualified for Sunday’s 400-meter dash finals.
The final day of competition from Koehler Fieldhouse on Sunday begins at 11 a.m.
