Abby Huber Named PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

Feb. 19, 2008

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg women's indoor track and field freshman Abby Huber (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) was named the PSAC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after contributing to two school records and two first-place finishes at last weekend’s Susquehanna Open in Selinsgrove.

In the 800-meter dash, Huber edged out sophomore Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs) by 0.02 seconds with a time of 2:15.28 that is the second-fastest time in the PSAC and the 15th-best in the nation.

For Huber, it is the second school record originally set this season by Dell that Huber has later shattered, and it is the eighth school record broken by a Lady Raider runner this season.

Huber also anchored the winning 4x800-meter relay team that finished with a time of 9:32.53, resulting in a school record because the original record was converted from a hand time, and this effort was digitally recorded and verified with Fully Automatic Timing.

Saturday’s effort for Shippensburg is the best in the conference this season by more than 20 seconds.

Shippensburg will compete in one more event before the PSAC Indoor Championships begin March 1 in East Stroudsburg. Next weekend, the Lady Raiders will travel to Ohio to compete in the Kent State Tune Up.
