Feb. 16, 2007
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - While the
Shippensburg sophomores were the individuals that dominated the evening
Friday at the Susquehanna Open, it was a freshman and a senior that took
home the two first-place finishes for the Lady Raiders. Shippensburg recorded
both first-place finishes on the night in throwing events, as freshman
Krysten Goetter (Ambler/Hatboro-Horsham) took first place in the shot put
with a toss of 11.71 meters, while senior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler
Hill/Honesdale) took first in the weight throw with a throw of 16.38 meters that broke
the Garrett Sports Complex record, previously held by Alison Maurer of
Kutztown.
It was the bright future of the Lady Raider indoor track squad that also
shone bright Friday evening, however, as several sophomores contributed top
performances. In the high jump, sophomore Shae Conrad (Selingsgrove/Selingsgrove) finished in second place with a leap of 1.47 meters while competing in her
home town. Sophomore Tina Grussenmeyer (Holland/Council Rock South) took
seventh in the long jump with a leap of 4.70 meters. In the triple jump,
sophomore Karen Good (Terre Hill/Garden Spot) finished in second place, jumping
10.43 meters. Good was also 12th in the long jump.
Sophomore Michelle Morcom (Moscow/Western
Wayne) placed third in the 200 meter dash, recording a run sprint of 27.63
seconds. Morcom also managed
a second place finish in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.61 seconds,
while Grussenmeyer placed third in 8.95 seconds.
Other strong performances for the Lady Raiders included sophomore Amanda
Spickler (Myersville/Middleton), who took third place in the 400 meter dash
by posting a time of 1:04.02, while sophomore Carly Devine (Myersville/Middleton) placed seventh in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:42.44. Sophomore Alli
Rineer (Lititz/Warwick) took sixth place in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:04.78.
Meanwhile, freshman Renee Crane (Waymart/Western Wayne) took third in the
55 meter dash, clocking in with a time of 7.75 seconds. Crane was also fifth
in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.85 seconds.
The Shippensburg indoor track and field teams returned to action Saturday,
when the squads traveled to Kent State University to compete in the day-long
Kent State Tune Up.
