Dell Finishes First Twice, Lady Raiders Take Second at PSAC East Challenge
Feb. 10, 2007
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Shippensburg
University women’s track and field team had a very strong outing,
but unfortunately the host team had a stronger one. The Lady Raiders scored
124 points to finish second at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
(PSAC) East Challenge held at Kutztown University Saturday.
Pacing the Lady Raiders was freshman Mary Dell (Boiling Springs,
Pa./Boiling Springs) who won the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.50 seconds, while also
taking first in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 26.55. In the former event,
sophomore teammate Siobhan Richards (York Haven, Pa./York Haven) came in
third with a time of 7.52 seconds. Additionally, Richards finished second
in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.16.
Sophomore Kristen McGoldrick (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) took home second
in the 800-meter run with a time 2:24.99, less than one second off her time
in the same event at last year’s East Championships. It was McGoldrick's
first action of the track and field season. Rounding up the top finishers
in running events, the Lady Raiders’ 4x400
relay team finished first, clocking in at 4:02.44.
In the women’s high jump, senior Monica Speca (Mechanicsburg,
Pa./Trinity) finished third with a leap of 5-feet, 5-inches, one inch off of her NCAA-qualifying
mark set at the Dick DeSchriver Inviational last weekend. Freshman Casey
Drummond (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) took fourth in that event at 5’3”.
Senior Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill, Pa./Honesdale) won the weight throw
with a distance of just over 51 feet.
The women return to action Friday, February 16, for the Orange and Maroon
Classic at Susquehanna University. Start time is 4:00 p.m.
