LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Erica Hess (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) followed up a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash last week at the DeSchriver Invitational by winning the 500-meter run at the 18th annual Bucknell Winter Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Six Lady Raiders recorded top-five finishes to highlight the performance of the Shippensburg women’s indoor track and field team, who was competing on the Bucknell indoor track for the third time in the last four weeks.

Junior Siobhan Richards (York Haven/York Haven) recorded two third-place finishes on the afternoon, finishing the 55-meter dash in 7.41 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 26.63 seconds.

The throwing performances were highlighted by freshman Margaret Merlie (Havertown/Archbishop Carroll), who recorded a second-place effort of 40-4 in the shot put.

In addition to Hess’s winning time in the 400-meter dash, freshman Laura Henzy (Langhorne/Neshaminy) took fifth place in the event with a time of 59.53. Three weeks ago, the duo contributed to the school-record time in the 1,600-meter relay on the Bucknell track at the Bison Heptagonal.

On Saturday, the twin tandem of freshmen Amanda and Emily Dubs (Dover/Northeastern) joined Hare and Henzy for a fourth-place finish in the relay with a time of 4:02.92. Individually, Emily Dubs finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.81.

Shippensburg will return to action next Saturday in Selinsgrove when the Lady Raiders compete in the Susquehanna Open from Susquehanna University.
