Schweighofer, Speca Earn First-Place Finishes for Lady Raiders at DeSchriver Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Shippenburg University seniors Megan Schweighofer (Tyler Hill/Honesdale) and Monica Speca (Mechanicsburg/Trinity) each grabbed first place finishes, highlighting several strong Lady Raider performances at the DeSchriver Invitational held at East Stroudsburg University.

Speca placed first in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-6, which was two inches higher than second-place finisher Leslie Martin of East Stroudsburg. The mark matched Speca's career best and tied the Shippensburg record while setting the top mark in the PSAC this season. It was also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Junior teammate Casey Drummond (Maple Glen/Upper Dublin) tied for sixth with a jump of 5-2.

Schweighofer took first-place in the weight throw with a toss of 50-4 3/4, edging East Stroudsburg's Amanda Sines who had a mark of 50-4.

Also in the field events, senior Stacey Wilcher (Harleysville/Souderton) placed sixth in the pole vault after clearing 10-0.

Lady Raider sophomore sprinters Michelle Morcom (Moscow/Western Wayne) and Siobahn Richards (York Haven/York Haven) each contributed two top-15 finishes. Morcom placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.66 seconds, which stands as the fourth-best time in the PSAC this year. She also finished 14th in the 400-meter dash.

Richards placed third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.42 seconds, and earned eighth in the 400 with a time of 1:03.34.

In the 200-meter dash, senior Julie Riccardo (Exton/Bishop McDevitt) earned sixth-place after psoting a time of 26.93 seconds.

The Lady Raider 4x200-meter relay team also placed third after finishing in 1:46.79.

Shippensburg returns to action next Saturday at the PSAC East Indoor Challenge hosted by Kutztown.
