Hess Wins 500-Meter Run at DeSchriver Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University women's track and field freshman Erica Hess (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) continued her strong debut season by winning the 500-meter run, at the ninth annual DeSchriver Invitational on Saturday hosted by East Stroudsburg University inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
Hess' time of 1:18.29 was more than four seconds faster than the closest competition and one of five top three finishes for Shippensburg.
Three Lady Raiders finished in second place on Saturday, highlighted by senior Bridget Danner (Etters/Red Land) finishing in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:01.18.
Other runner-up finishes include freshman Emily Dubs (Dover/Northeastern) who took second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.69, while junior Samantha Jones (Chambersburg/Chambersburg) finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:09.66.
Hess’s frequent partner in relays, freshman Laura Henzy (Langhorne/Neshaminy) finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.56 seconds, while freshman Katie Frey (Frederick, Md/Thomas Johnson) finished third in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:23.91. She also finished fifth in the 800-meter run.
Shippensburg will return to action on Friday when they travel to New York to compete in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
