Dell Honored as PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

Jan. 23, 2008

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - After combining for three individual second-place finishes at the Division I-laden Bucknell Heptagonal this past weekend, Shippensburg University women’s track and field sophomore Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs) was named women’s PSAC indoor track athletes of the week on Wednesday afternoon.

The women’s indoor track and field team broke three school records on Saturday afternoon at the Bucknell Heptagonal, and Dell had a hand in two of them.

In the 800-meter run, Dell recorded a second-place finish in the event with a time of 2:17.26 that not only shattered Lindsey Incorvati's school record by more than one second, but also gave Dell an NCAA National Provisional mark.

It is the second time this season that Dell has shattered a school record on the Bucknell track, as the 1,000-meter mark broken Saturday night by freshman Abby Huber (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) was originally broken by Dell last December in the Bison Opener.

Additionally, Dell contributed to the school-record performance in the 1,600-meter relay, as Dell joined two freshmen and one sophomore to finish the event in 3:59.58, just 12 hundredths of a second behind first-place Duquesne.

The quartet bested the previous school record of 4:00.61 by more than one whole second that was set in 2003 by Lisa Lushbaugh, Lindsey Incorvati, Tara Witmer and Stefanie Hauze.
Both the 800-meter time from Dell as well as the quartet’s effort in the 1,600-meter relay are the top times this season in the PSAC
.

Shippensburg will be in action at Bucknell for the third time this season next Friday for the two-day Bucknell Open and Multi. Action on Friday begins at 4:00 p.m.
