LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg women’s indoor track and field team broke three school records on Saturday afternoon at Bucknell University while four Lady Raiders earned first-place finishes to highlight a fourth-place finish at the Bucknell Heptagonal. The Lady Raiders totaled 77 points, just seven points behind St. Francis (Pa.) University.

The 1,600-meter relay team of sophomore Shannon Hare (Middletown/Middletown), freshman Erica Hess (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove), sophomore Mary Dell (Boiling Springs/Boiling Springs), and freshman Laura Henzy (Langhorne/Neshaminy) finished the event in 3:59.58, just 12 hundredths of a second behind first-place Duquesne.

The quartet bested the previous school record of 4:00.61 by more than one whole second that was set in 2003 by Lisa Lushbaugh, Lindsey Incorvati, Tara Witmer and Stefanie Hauze.

Another first-place finish of the day was recorded by talented freshman Abby Huber (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley), who dominated the 1,000-meter run with a school-record time of 2:57.18. Huber broke Dell's previous school record by more than four seconds, and has now earned first-place finishes in consecutive meets after winning the 800-meter run eight days ago at the PSAC East Challenge.

In addition to her contribution to the 1,600-meter relay, Dell recorded a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.26 that shattered Incorvati's school record by more than one second. Saturday's performance marks the second time this season that Dell has shattered a school record on the Bucknell track, as the 1,000-meter mark broken tonight by Huber was recorded by Dell last December in the Bison Opener.

Hare and Hess were also far from done for the afternoon. The duo dominated the 400-meter dash, finishing 1-2 in the event to earn the Lady Raiders 18 points. Hare won the event with a time of 59.23, while Hess was just one-hundredth of a second behind her. Additionally, Henzy finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.93 seconds.

Freshman Rebekah Newhart (Muncy/Hughesville) won the triple jump with a jump of 36 feet, 9.75 inches that is the third farthest in the conference this season. Newhart also placed fifth in the high jump, recording a jump of 1.59 meters.

Junior Michelle Morcom (Moscow/Western Wayne) raced through the 55-meter hurdles and won the event in 8.66 seconds after qualifying third in 8.84 seconds. Morcom’s time was just six-hundredths of a second short of her previous season-best that was set at the PSAC East Challenge just eight days ago.

Junior Siobhan Richards (York Haven/York Haven) nearly won the 55-meter dash and finished second with a time of 7.45 seconds. Her time is the fourth-fastest in the PSAC this season.

The women’s indoor track and field team will return to Bucknell once again on Friday to begin competition in the two-day Bucknell Open and Multi. Action on Friday begins at 4 p.m.
