Lady Raider Tennis Ousted in First Round of PSAC Individual Championships

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg women’s tennis seniors Melinda
Meisel (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) and Nicole Perugini
(Reading, Pa./Holy Name) were both bounced from
the single elimination Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s
Tennis Individual Championships in the opening round.
The event, which is being held at Shippensburg University’s Robb Sports
Complex, featured two rounds of action, 24 women’s players and 15 men’s
players on Saturday afternoon. The doubles tournament and singles semifinals
and finals will take place on Sunday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Shippensburg’s Perugini was knocked out of action by Clarion’s
Corin Rombach, 6-0, 6-3. Meisel fell to Bloomsburg’s Katie Hasyn, 6-1,
6-1.
Advancing to the semis in women’s action were Inga Chilingaryan, Helena
Van Eysendeyk Nina Reiswich of California (Pa.). Slippery Rock’s Kayla
Blackburn also reached the semis.
On the men’s side, Kutztown’s top-seeded Santiago Baquerizo will
face fourth-seeded Greg Bennett of Millersville. Unseeded Ryan Chow of Bloomsburg
used an upset of No. 3 seed Lukas Labitsch of Kutztown to advance into the
semis. He will face No. 2 seed Daniel Gal of Bloomsburg.
