Ship Women's Tennis Loses at Local Foe Dickinson, 6-3

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women’s tennis team dropped its seocnd-straight match this season, losing a 6-3 decision at nearby NCAA Division III Dickinson College on Wednesday night.

The Lady Raiders (1-3) opened with two quick points in doubles action, as the team of senior Lina Pavilionyte (Vilnius, Lithuania/Vilnius Sv. Kristopher) and junior Nicole Perugini (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) earned an 8-4 victory and the No. 2 team of sophomore Karen Jensenius (York, Pa./Northeastern) and junior Melinda Meisel (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) won 8-2.

Dickinson (1-0) managed a victory in No. 3 doubles as Kat Hood and Anne Kiely defeated freshman Katie Hoover (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and freshman Kristen Herman (Collegeville, Pa./Christopher Dock), 8-3.

While Pavilionyte won her match at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2 over Erica Tobias, Meisel was forced to sit out at No. 2 singles because of an injury suffered in doubles competition. As a result, head coach Walter Manderson had to shuffle the No. 2 through No. 6 singles and the Lady Raiders could not manage another point.

Dickinson swept the remaining five matches in convincing fashion to capture the victory.

Shippensburg competes in its final match of the fall schedule on Sunday against Philadelphia University. The match will be held at the Robb Sports Complex tennis courts and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
