Lady Raider Tennis Falls at Kutztown, 9-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's tennis team dropped all nine flights on Tuesday as the team lost 9-0 at Kutztown University. The Golden Bears took an early advantage in the match by sweeping all three doubles flights.

Shippensburg's No. 1 doubles team of senior Linda Pavilionyte (Vilnius, Lithuania/Vilnius Sv. Kristofer) and junior Nicole Perugini (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) fell 8-0 to Kerstin Kloeffer and Magaly Peter. It was the first loss for Pavilionyte and Perugini as a team this season.

At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Karen Jensenius (York, Pa./Northeastern) and junior Melinda Meisel (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) lost a tight match, 9-7, before Kutztown (2-0) cruised at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

In singles, Pavilionyte lost her first match of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Kloeffer. However, Pavilionyte was hampered by a hand injury that affected her play.

Meisel was downed 6-1, 6-1 by Peter at No. 2 singles while Perugini fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. The Golden Bears swept through No. 4 and No. 5 singles without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Allison Bollinger (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) was downed at No. 6 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-2.

The Lady Raiders (1-2) will head to Bloomsburg University this weekend to compete in the ITA East Regionals.
